If I had a dollar for every time a client said they wanted to build a really cool website that everyone will want to visit, I would be a very rich woman. Unlike Field of Dreams, with a website, just because you build it doesn’t mean they are going to come. You could have the coolest, smoothest, fastest website ever but unless you are actively driving traffic to it, no one will see it.
If I had another dollar for every time a client said they wanted to ‘drive traffic to the website’ I would never have to work again. Why does everyone want to drive traffic? Because your website is the best digital conversion tool there is, so let’s help you get people to visit!
After Facebook’s super fun announcement January 11, 2018, that they are tweaking their algorithm to downgrade businesses in viewers newsfeeds, it is becoming increasingly difficult to market your business on social, but that doesn’t mean it is impossible. Facebook ads have incredible targeting features that allow your content to be put in front of your target audience without breaking the bank.
There is also Instagram, a real dream for the social media marketing world, with a combination of highly visual content and hashtags, it’s easy to engage your audience…The only catch with using Instagram to drive web traffic is that you cannot embed a URL link into a post. It’s a pretty simple workaround, just encourage your guests to click the website link in your bio to learn more!
Been hearing people say search engine optimization – or SEO – is dead? Think again! Actually, ask if they’ve been sniffing glue and then think again. Organically ranking on the first (and to a lesser degree the second) page of Google is absolutely key to seeing website success. Many a web design company will offer on-page SEO as part of their build, but if they don’t offer it or you are building your site yourself, I suggest that you go somewhere that knows how to optimize your website for search engines. If you don’t you are going to have your work cut out for you.
Speaking of SEO, even the best on-page optimization doesn’t work right away. Developing an organic ranking takes time and I don’t mean weeks, I mean months if not a year. It is a whole process that isn’t easy or inexpensive, but it really does work! However, what do you do in the while you are waiting for traffic to flood your website? You take advantage of Google AdWords by targeting specific keywords and paying for website clicks that way.
If you have a nice little niche business AdWords will work nicely. On the flip side, if you are in an industry with lots of competition, be prepared to pay handsomely for each click. The 100s of AdWords features giving you anxiety? Don’t stress, we can run them for you!
Yet another great way to build your traffic is by developing killer content. Blogs with long and short form written content will help you target keywords and develop and organic ranking. So will infographics (Google loves graphics) and engaging videos (that can also double for social media content) will help you build an audience and if you keep posting on a regular basis it will keep them coming back for more.
Now, if you do one or two of these suggestions you will see an uptick in your website visitor count. However, we always suggest to all of our clients that they mix it up with by blending all of these elements together. Don’t just write a blog or two! If you really want to see a ton of people on your site, write blogs, post videos, curate an engaging social presence, pay for Google and social media ads, and get your website responsive and optimized.
